In my country, France, has long talked about the GM maize NK603, are there the same risks for forest species? What are the precautions that have been chosen in the early stages of assessment and test?

Thanks M. Q.

The study of Seralini et al. has been analysed by different comittees and is considered as not scientific and valid: The toxixity of maize NK603 is not demonstrated (it is cultivated and eat by animals without impact on health for a long time). Moreover , each GM Plant expressed a specific gene is different and this study cannot be generalized to other GM Plants. In the COST action, we are studying GM trees adn the genes which are introduced are related to improve their indudtrial interest (paper pulp making, biocarburants, phyto remedience..) and not human/animal food and feed. If a risk for human toxicity could be considered for specific GM trees, it will be studied before commercialization .
